Robin Toft is the President and CEO of Toft Group Executive Search. Prior to establishing the Toft Group in 2010, Robin served as Managing Director of Sanford Rose Associates® – San Francisco since joining the company in 2006. Over her 10+ years in the executive search industry, Robin has placed over 500 executives from Director through C-level, including numerous CEO’s, within rapidly growing biotech, pharmaceutical, diagnostic, medical device, and digital health companies. Robin’s passion is working with private equity, venture-backed, and entrepreneurial early and mid-stage companies to build their management teams. In this capacity, she has worked with companies financed by investors including: Abingworth, Alta Partners, Ampersand Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, Bain Capital, Bay City Capital, Canaan Partners, Enterprise Partners, Flagship Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, InterWest Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Mohr Davidow Ventures, North Bridge Venture Partners, Novus Ventures, Prospect Venture Partners, RA Capital, Sequoia Capital, Telegraph Hill Partners, Warburg Pincus, Venrock, and Versant Ventures.
Before starting Toft Group, Robin worked for 20 years in the industry, most recently as Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Operations for Roche in the San Francisco Bay Area. At Roche, she also held the position of Vice President of Virology. Prior to joining Roche, she was the first executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales at ViroLogic, Inc. (now Monogram Biosciences), a start-up biotech company in San Francisco. Robin was responsible for launching the company’s first products and was instrumental in completing its IPO. Before that, Robin served in a variety of senior management positions at Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), one of the world’s largest clinical diagnostic companies. Robin was responsible for initiating a molecular diagnostics marketing and sales force for LabCorp in order to make PCR technology broadly available during its infancy. Robin began her Life Sciences career in 1988 with SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories.
Robin has served on the Board of Directors of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Foundation of San Diego, CA, was Vice President of the Sanford Rose Associates® Owners Association Board of Trustees, and served as a Director at Innovative Biosensors, Inc., an emerging biotech company based in Rockville, MD. She currently serves on the Board the Scripps Mercy Hospital Foundation Board, and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team, and LEAD San Diego, the only organization in the San Diego/Northern Baja California region solely dedicated to developing civically engaged leaders.

Robin’s passion and leadership in business and within the community has earned her numerous awards, including the Athena PINNACLE Top Company Award and recognition as a finalist in the San Diego Business Journal “Women Who Mean Business” and “Most Admired CEO” Awards in multiple consecutive years. Additionally, Robin actively supports numerous community organizations including the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, the Clearity Foundation, Mana de San Diego, Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Cancer Society, and the ALS Foundation.
In May of 2013, the company was honored with the Athena San Diego PINNACLE Top Company Award for supporting women in leadership roles in life sciences. In 2012, 43% of the company’s placed candidates were women, up from 31% in 2011. The company continues to focus on engaging the top female leaders within the industry for all assignments.
Robin has a B.S. in Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Science) from Michigan State University, completed her internship at William Beaumont Hospital, pursued her teaching credential at San Diego State University, and subsequently taught university level Medical Technology at the University of Hawaii.
