The Golden Rule Vs. The Platinum Rule
Happy Summer! I hope it has been fun and relaxing to date, and that you’re not working too hard. I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes employees happy lately. I have learned through talking with countless executives while recruiting CEO’s, that embracing the unique needs of each individual employee is a necessity for any successful leader. Demonstrating appreciation of employees is essential for long-term retention. Whereas most would identify with “The Golden Rule” as being a universally acceptable code of conduct, it ignores the fact that employees are not simply different from one another, but profoundly so. Instead of knowing what is best for ourselves and then happily projecting that view onto others, there is an alternative solution to leadership known as “The Platinum Rule”.
